Is your Chromebook running slow or getting error messages about CPU or memory usage? Try these simple steps listed below.
1. Shut down and turn back on the Chromebook.
2. Check your CPU usage and what is taking up the most CPU usage, see below.
3. It could be a Chrome extension is consuming your CPU or memory. Try turning off your Chrome extensions. See below how to do that.
4. If that doesn’t resolve it try a hard reset. Turn off your Chromebook. Press and hold Refresh + tap Power. When your Chromebook starts up, release Refresh .
Open any Chrome window. Click the menu button, point to “More Tools”,
Select the “Task Manager” option. The task manager shows you how much memory, CPU, and network activity different web pages, browser extensions, and apps are using.
Open any Chrome window. Click the menu button, point to “More Tools”, and then select the "Extensions" option.
Click the slider next to every extension you can (some extensions are turned on by the administrator and cannot be turned off).
Close and reopen Chrome and see if it is faster now. If it is, turn on one extension at a time until you find the one that is slowing Chrome down.
Open the Files app on your Chromebook
Go to the download folder and select the files you no longer need
Click the Trash can icon to delete the files
If you Chromebook just isn’t working right, you can wipe it out completely and reset it to the default settings. This is a fairly quick process and when you log back in all of your extensions will reappear. The only thing you should lose is anything in your Downloads folder.
Sign out of your Chromebook (if you can't sign out hold the power button until it goes off and turn it on).
Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R.
Select Restart.
In the box that appears, select power wash to continue.
Follow the steps that appear and sign in with your Google Account.
Check if the problem is fixed.
