Memorial Day This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave men and women from Worcester and across the nation who served in the military and gave their lives for our freedom. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, began in 1868 following the Civil War to honor the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. 🕊️🌹 Let us take a moment to reflect on their courage and express our gratitude.

Seal of Biliteracy & Pathway Celebration Ceremony🏅 On Thursday night, we honored 210 Massachusetts state-recognized bilingual and biliterate students at Worcester Technical High School during the annual State Seal of Biliteracy celebration ceremony.

Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, one-third of the legendary hip hop trio Run DMC, visited with students of Worcester Alternative on Wednesday to discuss the importance of mental health and perseverance through life’s obstacles. Thank you DMC for speaking with our scholars and educators!

McGrath Elementary School⭐ “Nellie is a conscientious and curious learner and is always willing to engage with new activities and skills,” said educator Stefanie Furlong-Begreen. “Nellie is an incredibly hard worker and has a clear love of learning. ⭐ WooStar Andy Sharry, physical education and health teacher at South High Community School ⭐ “Andy goes above and beyond in his role as a gym and health teacher,” said a fellow staff member. “He has organized CPR training for his students, he organized a heart check-up day bringing in doctors from the city to conduct heart checks, he volunteers to emcee our school pep rallies and dresses up in costumes to greet our students and promote "smile day" and other important days for our students." "He is a great teacher who emphasizes mindfulness and good health among his students."

Not only is Katie an amazing teacher, but she is also the advisor to South High's literary magazine "The Apricot Journal" which was recently recognized as distinguished as part of the annual Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazine.
